The Association

MSF-Hong Kong

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) - Hong Kong was founded in 1994 and is now one of the 23 associations of the international MSF movement. The 23 associations make up the associative dimension; the offices of all MSF sections form the executive.

The Association

Through MSF associations, members voice their opinions and contribute to the definition and implementation of MSF’s social mission. The associations safeguard the identity of MSF, ensuring that activities and operations stay true to MSF’s Charter, principles and social mission.

By joining an association, members engage in the collective ownership of MSF and oversight of its leadership. The associations function in a participatory way. The Association delegates MSF’s day-to-day decision-making and strategic planning to a Board of Directors whose members are elected by the associates in the course of the annual General Assembly

The Executive

The executive is responsible for day-to-day management and support of operations. The MSF-HK office, working under the supervision of the Executive Director, is responsible for carrying out daily activities within the framework set by the Board (Annual Plan, Strategic Plan, Budget) and the MSF principles and values as outlined in the MSF Charter, the Chantilly Document and the La Mancha Agreement.

The actions of the executive should not conflict with MSF’s identity, and the executive is accountable to the Board and the members of the association of that section.
