Missing finger

Today I have a case which quite impresses me. It is a 13 years old girl. She was trapped under the rubbles of a fallen building. But she was very tough. She survived. Finally she was evacuated from the rubbles, but she got a fracture on her left leg and an open fracture on her left middle finger. Then she got the wound infection. Though we treated her with antibiotics, cleaning of wound, repeated surgical wound management and removal of dirt, the condition of her middle finger could not be reversed. Finally we need to make a decision to amputate her middle finger. It is sad. But there is also something positive. She is now actively under physiotherapy (provided by MSF as well). And she will return to home soon.
