Be it in conflict, in a natural disaster, a disease outbreak, or in an HIV programme - women are in need of specific care. Reproductive healthcare is an integral part of the medical care we provide, including in emergencies. In areas where maternal death is high, such as in Afghanistan or the Central African Republic, MSF has opened specific projects to provide care to women.
Our healthcare teams work together with pregnant women to provide pre-natal care, delivery services, emergency obstetric care, post-delivery consultations, as well as family planning and safe abortion care. We work with midwives and traditional birth attendants to establish programmes so complicated births can be identified quickly to help prevent maternal deaths.
