Launched in 2012, our program in Cairo applies a multidisciplinary approach adapted to the specific needs of migrants and refugees to provide medical and mental health care , sexual and reproductive health services, physiotherapy and social assistance. In 2019, we conducted a total of 16,300 outpatient consultations, including 8,250 individual mental health consultations and 2,260 physiotherapy consultations. We also hosted nearly 2,050 social assistance sessions.

In 2019, our teams admitted 737 new survivors of mistreatment or physical violence. We have strengthened our group therapeutic approach to mental health, and conducted more than 110 sessions for 1,140 participants. We provided comprehensive care to 1,330 victims of sexual violence , 740 of whom were treated within 72 hours of the incident. We have intensified our contacts with civil society, the government, major medical providers and academic institutions on the issue of violence against women, and we organized a conference at the end of the year on the medical and psychological consequences of sexual violence. and gender-based and ways to improve victims' access to care.

MSF opened a Medical and Psychological Support Unit (MPSU) to enable clinics run by partner organizations to offer comprehensive services to victims of sexual violence. This unit will help these organizations integrate, manage and continue these services independently. It currently works in partnership with three organizations in seven clinics in Alexandria and Greater Cairo.
