HKD 250  Treats 12 Children

You can help MSF treat more than a million children and pregnant women for malaria, a disease transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Commonly seen in tropical areas, malaria is a neglected disease and the biggest killer of children under age five in Sub-Saharan Africa. It threatens impoverished and displaced people who live in wet areas and cannot afford protective mosquito nets. Symptoms include fever, nausea, shock, seizures, coma and renal failure. Malaria may cause death within a few hours if left untreated.

MSF was one of the first non-governmental organizations to use a new fixed-dose combination drug that includes artemisinin, a Chinese herb. Your gift can help us provide these pills, proven highly effective and patient friendly. This artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) works quickly to combat the illness and causes very few side effects. Treatment is available in dosages calculated specifically for infant, children, youth and adults.
