Every dollar helps us provide medical relief to people in real danger around the world. These include:
Response and preparation for natural disasters
Natural disasters occur without any warning and are not predictable. So MSF needs to be well-prepared and ready to arrive at the scene as soon as possible to understand the medical needs and provide assistance. Making sure it’s the right help in the right place is crucial in protecting the lives of the survivors, especially when supplies of clean drinking water, medical care and transport
Medical assistance to people in war and conflict
MSF steps in by providing medical care and other forms of support when hospitals and medical facilities in a war zone are damaged or not able to cope. Our duties include setting up operating theatres, mobile clinics, water and sanitation equipment and providing mental health services, as well as lots of other health activities.
Epidemics
Every year, there are still millions of people who lose their lives due to infectious diseases that are preventable or curable, such as measles, malaria, pneumonia and many others. MSF runs vaccination campaigns in response to the outbreak of epidemics. We also set up temporary places where patients can have treatment and a bed to help the local health services, and we support the testing and contact tracing programmes in local communities. We also work with local health authorities to train medical staff on how to prevent and control infections, and promote health education to the community.
