Libya: MSF returns to Benghazi

MSF teams have returned to Libya after being forced to withdraw from Benghazi due to worsening security conditions on the 15th of March. Today, seven MSF staff are inside the country, both in Benghazi and Tobruk, planning to resume assessments of medical needs and provide support with medical personnel and materials where required.

“Since we first entered on the 24th of February, our aim has been to reach areas where the ongoing fighting has left the most needs” explains Simon BURROUGHS, MSF Emergency Coordinator in Libya.

From Libya, MSF reiterates the importance of respecting medical facilities, health personnel and vehicles carrying patients, and calls on all parties involved to allow unhindered access to medical humanitarian assistance.

MSF is also trying to enter Libya from Tunisia. But, in spite of continuous efforts since February 23, the teams have still not received authorization to cross the border.
