A sad story

Today we admitted a 11 years girl, she had an accident with her right foot being jammed on a stone then fell on to ground, that caused a twist-fall injury and her leg bone was broken & probed out of her skin. Injury like that should not be a big problem with proper medical management. But the tragedy is that her parents sought advice from some rural medical practitioner and she arrived to our hospital 2 months after the injury with the bone probing out all this 2 months. It is something I just can not imagine in a modern world. So the bone segment that is probing out is dead and that involve one third of the length of the tibial bone. With a gap so large, the chance of her healing with her foot without an amputation is really slim. It is unbearable for me to see this girl to have the amputation done. But I know that is the reality in a poor developing country. Tragedy is happening everyday. So the best I can do is to try my best for these poor people in the years ahead when I am still capable of going on the field.
