MSF in Gaza concludes a physiotherapists training project on burn management

On the 11th of January 2012, MSF concluded a physiotherapists’ training project in partnership with the Gaza health authority.

The joint training program in the field of burn cases rehabilitation was a result of constant efforts of MSF and the Gaza health authority physical therapy and rehabilitation unit, in order to enhance specialists’ skills, so that patients are provided with an elective physiotherapeutic care such as splints, facial masks, and pressure garments, helping the patients to face medical, social and psychological heavy consequences of burns.

Over more than 6 months, the physiotherapists received both a theoretical and practical training at the MSF post operative clinic in Gaza city. In the meantime, the 3 specialized burn units of the Gaza strip (Shifa Hospital in Gaza, Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis and the Sheikh Redwan Primary health Care Centre) were equipped with needing material, such as instruments and consumables.

Training certificates were distributed to the six physiotherapists from Gaza health authority during a ceremony gathering Gaza local authority representatives, WHO, UNRWA, local and International NGOs.
