Myamnar Cyclone: MSF Teams Respond to Needs in affected Areas

In Bogaley and in Pyapon our teams are running 4 mobile clinics on small boats in the periphery of the towns, providing health care to the survivors. In parallel, Médecins Sans Frontières is distributing kits of non-food items and plastic sheeting.

In Pyapon and surrounding villages, MSF teams distributed over 4100 plastic sheetings for shelter, 4300 mosquito nets and therapeutic food during the weekend. They also gave 280 medical consultations. Main pathologies observed are diarrhea and mental health problems related to the recent cyclone.

In Bogaley, MSF teams have over the week-end given 140 consultations and distributed 155 plastic sheets for shelter and 250 mosquito nets.

In those two last locations, MSF teams noted the lack of access to drinking water, as people only use now rain water.

MSF activities continue at a large scale in the Delta region mainly with Burmese staff. Restrictions imposed on international staff hampers MSF activities in the country in its magnitude and velocity.

Over 250 staff are working in the Delta area.

49 international staff and 1,200 national staff are working for MSF throughout the country.

MSF has been able to send 190 tons of relief material in the country along with water and sanitation equipment, which needs skilled staff being able to handle it.
