Regional Association Manager

 

Job Purpose
MSF Hong Kong was established in 1994 and is now one of the 26 associations of the international movement. Since early 2000s, MSF HK has already been recruiting outside of the boundaries of Hong Kong and therefore regionalizing its HR pool and subsequently its association membership make-up. Consequently, MSF HK Association became the first regional association and is now amongst one of seven in the Movement.
Currently, MSF HK Association has members coming mostly from 14 countries across and East Asia, thus cultivation and engagement of association members is key to encourage the Association’s main responsibility to safeguard MSF identity and ensuring that executive activities and operation are aligned to MSF’s charter, principles, and social mission.
The position of the Regional Association Manager is critical in cultivating and animate a vibrant and well-informed membership, willing and able to assume its responsibilities and engage in key debates about MSF’s humanitarian action, with the view of providing ongoing guidance to MSF HK and the Movement.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an Association Engagement Plan/Strategy, Annual plan and respective annual budget. 
  • Develop and maintain a well-established representation of MSF HK Association in the region, other MSF entities in the region (Associations and missions) and MSF Movement. 
  • Strong connection with the international (and relevant OC/regional) associative platforms and contribute to all relevant dossiers.
  • Lead and effectively manage, the MSF-HK association team (Association Communication Officer and Association Network and Engagement Officer) to work with the regional focal points/Representatives, and the regional peers' networks.
  • Foster meaningful membership engagement that encourages members to take ownership of the Association and take part in the governance process in MSF.
  • Maintain interactive communication on keys associative issues that bridges members, returned field workers, office, and the board.
  • Regular internal communication with members with purpose of inspiring participation and contribution and establish communication links with and between members & peers.
  • Safeguard the association as MSF's own internal democracy by ensuring safe space for associative debates and discussions and proactively promote information transparency between the executives and the association.
  • Ensure that the organization and proceedings of the Annual General Meeting are conducted in accordance to the Articles of Association, Internal Regulations, and other legal formalities with the Board Affairs Executive and/or the Company Secretary.
  • Ensure that key activities, issues and development of the MSF Movement, MSF HK and regional/local community are kept track of by the Association and the Board.

The Ideal Candidate 

  • Bachelor’s degree or above.
  • Five-year working experience preferably in communications, event management, or relevant areas, preferably 1 year MSF or NGO experience.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the humanitarian principles, social mission, operations, and challenges of MSF.
  • Knowledge of, and interest in governance issues and the values of non-governmental organization.
  • Experience in event planning and/or project management.
  • Ability to think strategically on how to drive the development of the Association.
  • Excellent communication skills including public speaking, networking, cross-cultural awareness and sound knowledge of using communication tools.
  • Adept at handling sensitive and confidential information, maintain high level of discretion.
  • Excellent oral and written fluency in English & Cantonese.
  • A self-starter with stress tolerance, flexibility ability to handle large volumes of work, and track multiple projects and support multiple groups or activities at any one time.
  • Flexibility to work additional/out of hours as necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role and willingness to undertake frequent travel.
